What I did – What They Thought “I was explaining to Debbie that part of my work with senior executives is explaining workplace trends to them and encouraging them to think about the implications for their businesses. One of these trends is the waves that so-called Generation Y, the 18 – 25 year olds, are making in the workplace. I reeled off some of the characteristics typical of this generation. Debbie obviously absorbed this information, visualised who this person might be and set about finding someone with this profile. With this profile and information in her mind, she soon spotted a young man she thought might be typical. He was.

Using her highly effective interviewing and questioning skills, she let this young man speak about his ambitions and what he wants from a job, colleagues and managers. The resulting film had immediate impact and communicated in minutes his energy, passion, determination and self-opinionated views in a way that is not possible to determine from flat text in research reports.”
