MzTEK joined forces with Guerrilla Science, Shauna Concannon (PhD Media Arts and Technology Engineer) and artists Kobakant to design wearable instruments. In a weekend workshop, women spent a day reproducing electronic instruments and sonic soft-circuits to produce the most amazing Hacked Human Orchestra EVER!
I made this video as part of my Artist In Residence position at The Centre for Creative Collaboration on June 30th 2012. You can see this video on Guerrilla Science’s website here.
As an Artist In Residence at Centre for Creative Collaboration it is my job to document activities around the centre. Open Plaques was one such group that came to the centre. Open Plaques is a community-based project begun in 2009 which documents, catalogs and promotes commemorative plaques installed on buildings and other public landmarks in the UK and beyond with the aim of making its website and database these historical markers.
MzTEK is a non-profit organisation with the aim of addressing the imbalance of women artists working in the fields of new media, computer arts, and technology. MzTEK is supported by Hackney arts institution [ SPACE ], and the Centre for Creative Collaboration in Kings Cross, where they hosted a range of workshops, talks, and self-initiated tinker sessions. In this video, MzTEK talks about moving in to C4CC and what MzTEK are and do.
As a video maker I often get asked for tips on how to make better videos. We are all being encouraged to film footage for the web and for those who choose to shoot content themselves I hope this short video helps. It covers all the mistakes often made when you get hold of a camera and don’t know what you are doing. You may also like another video I made Shooting With A Webcam.
